CHRISTIAN RECONSTRUCTION

Christian Reconstruction is a misunderstood and often misrepresented Biblical world view. It would be fair to say that many Christians have never heard of the term. While most Christians will not find the true tenets of Christian Reconstruction objectional, it is the application of such that becomes difficult for some. This difficulty arises mostly from the errant shift(circa 1830) to dispensationalism by many seminaries and consequently pastors and congregations.

It is the misrepresentation of the Christian Reconstructionist position, however, that has caused objection and even directed anger at those of us who hold to this Biblical world view. The list of misrepresentations is long and in this case unimportant as, here, we don't desire to explain what Christian Reconstruction isn't, but rather what it is.

Below you will find links to articles and explanations that will hopefully clarify the Christian Reconstructionist Biblical world view.

"Christian Reconstruction: A Call for Reformation and Revival"

By Robert Parsons

Christian Reconstruction is a call to the Church to awaken to its biblical responsibility to revival and the reformation of society. While holding to the priority of individual salvation, Christian Reconstruction also holds that cultural renewal is to be the necessary and expected outworking of the gospel as it progressively finds success in the lives and hearts of men. Christian Reconstruction therefore looks for and works for the rebuilding of the institutions of society according to a biblical blueprint...

"Christian Reconstruction"

Kenneth L. Gentry Jr.

"Christian Reconstructionism, ... is a conservative, evangelical theology, generating a full-orbed Christian worldview and Christian social theory. It is a growing phenomenon held by devout Christians from various denominational backgrounds. It is not a movement, nor a church, but a theological orientation, a rigorously biblical worldview..."

"The Creed of Christian Reconstruction"

Andrew Sandlin

"A Christian Reconstructionist is a Calvinist. He holds to historic, orthodox, catholic Christianity and the great Reformed confessions. He believes God, not man, is the center of the universe- and beyond; God, not man, controls whatever comes to pass; God, not man, must be pleased and obeyed. He believes God saves sinners--He does not help them save themselves. A Christian Reconstructionist believes the Faith should apply to all of life, not just the "spiritual" side. It applies to art, education, technology, and politics no less than to church, prayer, evangelism, and Bible study."...

"The Continuing Legacy of Christian Reconstruction"
by Mark R. Rushdoony
October 10, 2005

I would like to talk this morning about what Christian Reconstruction is. When people ask me for an explanation of what Christian Reconstruction is, I usually give them the short answer. I say,

Our culture has problems because it is based on the sinful will of men. Rebellion against God never works, so these problems will progress to a systemic failure. We believe in rebuilding our culture on the Word of God, starting with individuals and progressing outwardly to families, groups, institutions, communities, and beyond.

Chalcedon is an organization that promotes Christian Reconstruction, but Christian Reconstruction is not an organization. It is a view of the Christian faith and the believer’s responsibility thereto. I realize that not all Reconstructionists agree on all points, but I’m speaking now of the historical roots of Reconstruction and some of the ideas that gave it impetus.
